Ursus Telecom Signs Marketing Pact with UOL

Ursus Telecom Corp. signed a marketing agreement with Latin America's Universo Online (UOL) portal site to promote its theStream.com on the UOL home page.

UOL will feature theStream.com exclusively for the sale of Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) through theStream's Internet Phone Booth, the browser based PC-to-Phone service offered by Ursus Telecom.

Spending was not disclosed.

The VOIP service is offered through theStream's exclusive online provisioning, payment, and bill presentment system.

"We expect our fourth quarter roll-out of marketing and publicity for theStream.com to be supercharged by our exposure on UOL," said Jeffrey Chaskin, president of Ursus, "as this is the leading provider of Internet services in the most significant market in South America."

Ursus said it has a strong focus on emerging markets in its traditional telephony business, Voice Over Internet Protocol, and its e-business engine theStream.com.

UOL in Brazil claims approximately half a million subscribers in 106 cities. Launched commercially in August 1996, UOL says it is the world's most visited Portuguese language Web site with 13.6 million page views a day.

Ursus Telecom operates switching facilities and points of presence in Florida, Frankfurt, Lima, Buenos Aires, Johannesburg and Tokyo.
