Free ISP Debuts With No Floating Ad Banners

Here's a switch. WorldSpy launched as a free ISP that does not feature pop-up or banner advertising.

WorldSpy said it offers consumers free, nationwide Internet connections, free e-mail, toll-free customer service and unlimited usage with no monthly fees and no floating advertising banners.

The service has pre-registered more than 100,000 subscribers in less than two months.

The financial hook is that WorldSpy users begin each online session at the WorldSpy "gateway" page, where they can compare and buy products from WorldSpy, which provides comparison features that allow consumers to view product features side-by-side before they buy.

In addition, the site hosts a library of unbiased product reviews and lifestyle content from such publications as Consumers Digest, Elle, Sound & Vision, and Home magazines.

"Internet access is now truly free, so why should people keep paying for it? We believe that our free, commerce-supported Internet access will turn the ISP market on its head," said Alan Clingman, co-founder and CEO of WorldSpy.
