The new NBC Internet Inc. signed a promotion and distribution deal with Clear Channel Communications Inc. by which NBCi's services will be promoted on the media conglomerate's 425 radio stations and integrated into companion Internet properties.
Clear Channel Chairman and CEO Lowry Mays, will serve on the board of directors of NBCi. Under the terms of the multifaceted agreement, NBCi's community and search services -- including personal user home page building, free e-mail and chat powered by Snap and XOOM.com -- are being integrated into the Web sites of Clear Channel's radio stations.
These services will be designed to retain the look and feel of Clear Channel's individual station Web sites and will be promoted on-air on the radio stations via in-show mentions and promotional spots.
Financial arrangements were not disclosed.
NBCi was formed out of the combination of the Snap.com Internet portal, the community services and direct e-commerce company XOOM.com and select Internet properties of NBC properties, including NBC.com, NBC Interactive Neighborhood, AccessHollywood.com, VideoSeeker and a 10 percent equity interest in CNBC.com.
