Netscape Launching Sweepstakes to Promote Netcenter

Netscape Communications Corp. said it plans a promotion called "The Netscape Silver Screen Sweepstakes" as part of its $10 million campaign to push traffic to its new Netscape Netcenter portal site .
The promotion will be co-sponsored by entertainment and consumer products companies such as Warner Bros. Online, Paramount Digital Entertainment, Hollywood Online and Sony as the leading prize provider.
The promotion offers Internet users a way to try Netscape WebMail by USA.NET and provides an opportunity to win a variety of prizes related to the entertainment industry and Hollywood, including a grand prize drawing for a Sony Maximum Television Home Entertainment System.
Netscape's marketing push is designed to build membership and promote the Netscape Netcenter site. As part of the campaign, Netscape said it will be launching online advertising beginning July 20, to advertise the sweepstakes promotion and the newly launched Netscape Netcenter 2.0 site.
"The marketing plans we are announcing today represent the first in a series of Netscape initiatives to expand and promote Netscape Netcenter," said Mike Homer, executive vice president and general manager of Netscape's Netcenter division. "We want Internet users to know that Netcenter is not only a resource for business and computing services, but also serves as a leading consumer destination as well."
The sweepstakes, created in conjunction with Yoyodyne Entertainment Inc., will run for 10 weeks beginning July 29. To participate, users need to visit Netscape Netcenter, sign up for Netscape WebMail by USA.NET and the game, and they will be sent a welcome e-mail with the necessary details about how to play. Users can also register for the sweepstakes by snail mail.
