OracleMobile Makes Wire-free ASP Moves

OracleMobile was tasked with delivering wireless application services to the wire-free Internet industry when Oracle Corp. spun-off the division in February.

The mobile application service provider is set to deliver a complete lineup of solutions for wireless website creation and hosting. The OracleMobile hosted solution supports all current and emerging wireless standards and markup languages including CHTML, HDML, HTML, Pager text-format, Palm HTML, TTML, VoiceXML, VoxML and WML.

Evite.com, Food.com and Lottery.com announced this week that each online entity would go with OracleMobile to develop and host the wireless versions of their sites.

According to a recent report by Morgan Stanley Dean Witter , 87 percent of the chief information officers surveyed are seriously considering or would be willing to consider having their software hosted by an application service provider.

At the same time, the wireless Internet market is exploding, with analysts predicting that more than one billion devices will be capable of accessing the Internet without wires by 2003.

As a wireless solutions provider, OracleMobile seems well suited to reap the rewards of delivering solutions in both the wireless and ASP high-growth market segments.

Denise Lahey, OracleMobile chief executive officer, said the firm is banking on taking a big piece of the wireless ASP pie.

"The future of software is as a hosted service over the Internet," Lahey said. "OracleMobile's hosted approach to wireless delivers the best possible mobile experience, while allowing our customers to stay focused on their core business and maintain complete control of their content and branding."

Built on the back of Oracle Internet software, OracleMobile's hosted wireless services are designed to deliver reliable, scaleable, highly personalized mobile content over any wire-free device available today.

OracleMobile is building and hosting wireless sites for companies that do business on the Net. Wireless sites allow Internet-based businesses to extend their branding efforts, content delivery and online services to the wireless world.

The firm is providing Evite with a hosted wireless service that enables its customers to access up-to-date information, from which they may receive instant invitations, acknowledgement or driving directions from any location.

With Food.com's hosted wireless site, its customers will be able to search for restaurants in their area and order a mobile meal for delivery. The personalized "My Food.com" service also allows mobile users to select from their individual lists of past orders, usual orders and favorite restaurants.

Lottery.com's hosted wireless application includes OracleMobile's advanced personalization, customization and alert notification features. Mobile lottery players will be able to access past lottery results, receive alerts and other prize-winning news.

In tandem with the delivery of wireless Web solutions to three new clients, OracleMobile formed an interesting strategic alliance with ScreamingMedia, Inc. .

As a leading global content aggregator, ScreamingMedia didn't have to shout to get OracleMobile's attention. Through proprietary technology, ScreamingMedia piles up licensed content from 2,800 sources for news, features, photos, audio, video, stock quotes and weather reports, which it filters to instantly deliver the goods to its 1,100 web customers.
