Systinet, a Cambridge, Mass.-based Web services infrastructure software provider, today announced the release of WASP (Web Applications and Services Platform) Version 4.0, a suite of products designed to help independent software vendors (ISVs) and enterprises build, deploy, secure and manage Web services.
To encourage adoption among developers and to jump-start the large-scale deployment of Web services, Systinet also introduced a new pricing structure that includes a free licensing option of its Web services deployment platform. "Web services are still in the innovative stage. This allow developers to work on proof of concept," Anne Thomas Manes, Systinet's chief technology officer, told ASPnews. "They can go to business managers with something to show."
Manes said that the free license "isn't a stripped-down or non-functioning version." It allows developers to deploy WASP 4.0 on one CPU. For large-scale deployments beyond a single CPU, customers can purchase a multi-CPU WASP Version 4.0 deployment license for $2,000 per CPU. Systinet WASP UDDI Version 4.0 is priced separately at $10,000 per CPU for commercial deployment.
WASP Version 4.0 product suite includes WASP Developer (which supports Borland JBuilder, Sun ONE Studio, Eclipse and IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer), WASP Server for Java, WASP Server for C++ and WASP UDDI.
