In keeping with the trend to publish application programming interfaces (APIs) in anticipation of Web services integration, Vocus, an ASP that specializes in public relations automation, today announced the release of its API.
According to the Lanham, Md.-based company, its API is built using Microsoft XML Web services and the Microsoft .NET Framework. The Web services API is designed to make it easy for companies to integrate Vocus public relations automation suite with other sales, marketing and business enterprise applications.
Vocus provides Web-based software to help companies manage the communications process, increase exposure with the press and the public, and analyze and measure the effectiveness of corporate communications campaigns.
According to Vocus, the capability to integrate the public relations suite with the other business applications fills the void by allowing integration with enterprise application from companies such as Siebel, Oracle, Peoplesoft and SAP.
According to Vocus, its Web services API provides access to an international database of over 500,000 reporters and analysts and approximately 200,000 publicity opportunities. The API will also allow access to workflow automation modules available in the Vocus Public Relations software suite.
"Microsoft is pleased to see companies such as Vocus realizing the benefits of XML Web services and extending these benefits to its customers," said Richard Burte, product manager for the Developer Platform and Evangelism Division at Microsoft Corp.
Vocus is listed by ASPnews as a Top 20 Service Provider.
