To meet what it calls an "accelerating demand" for Web-based meeting services in Asia, WebEx Communications Inc. , today announced that has expanded its global communications infrastructure by adding a Japan hub to its network.

WebEx services are built on the WebEx MediaTone communications platform, which is designed to allow its communications services to manage complex media types including 3-D objects, CAD files, streaming media and live video.

"The demand we have seen in the last year proves that Asia represents a valuable market opportunity for our Web meeting services," said Subrah Iyar, chairman and CEO of WebEx Communications.

"Japanese companies are joining other WebEx customers across the globe in using WebEx meetings to decrease travel costs, increase productivity, cut product development times, and reach new customers and markets. WebEx adds the critical visual communications element to every phone call," Gene Kuo, vice president and general manger of WebEx Asia Pacific.

WebEx Communications Japan KK was incorporated in Japan in August.
