Documentum Debuts New Program at AIIM

Documentum last week announced ASPire, its program created to assist ASPs, system integrators and consultants in offering subscription-based applications.

Gerry Machi, vice president, application hosting business, told ASP-News that Documentum wanted to allow smaller and mid-size companies to benefit from its 4i-based solutions without completely redesigning its technology.

Documentum, Inc(DCTM)currently has five ASPire Solution partners and will sign an additional 35 within the next couple of months.

Current ASPire partner CyLex Systems, Inc. is a prime example of the technology crossover ASPire provides.

"Traditional applications are not built to fit the ASP business delivery model, and our relationship with Documentum proves this," Zijad Aganovic, president and chief executive officer, CyLex. Documentum understands the documentation side very well, while we cover the service provider angle in this partnership."

Machi agreed. "We are not in the business of supporting the end user, but in the business of supporting the ASP who in turn supports the end user," he said.

Other ASPire partners include ConnectSite.com, Informative Graphics Corp. and Level 3 subsidiary PKSIS Information Services Inc., which will act as an ASP infrastructure hosting provider to other members of the ASPire programs. Machi told ASP-News that the ingredients of Documentum's AP strategy are based on three core elements.

The ASPire program provides ASPs with monthly licensing terms for the Documentum software, supporting the subscription-based revenue model. ASPire partners will have the added support of an ASP technology consultant and of Documentum's sales and marketing program to help sell its service. "We have a compensation plan in place to reward our sales team for selling ASPire partner applications," Machi said. Documentum also offers its partners an ASP technology consultant.

To date, Documentum has identified over 400 potential ASP partners.

These announcements were made in New York at the AIIM conference, the premier annual event for the document management industry.
