Genuity Unveils Consulting Arm

Genuity Inc. , a Burlington, Mass., provider of Net infrastructure services, has launched an online consulting division for its business customers.

Aimed at businesses considering Genuity's Black Rocket, which provides T-1 Net connections, network software, Web hosting and other services, the new consulting arm is designed to help companies plan and implement online businesses.

Clients will get access to more than 2,000 Genuity networking staff as well as partners, who can provide advice on services ranging from architecture, performance and security. The goal is to provide a complete network infrastructure service, freeing businesses from the task.

Rick Genovese, a management consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopoers, said, "Working with an infrastructure provider like Genuity in the earliest stages of project planning may significantly reduce the risk of running into costly, major technological problems further into the implementation."

A spin-off from GTE, Genuity has annual revenues of more than $1 billion.

In midday trading Wednesday, GENU, which since its June IPO has traded between 11.25 and 2.625, was down 0.1562, or 5 percent, at 2.7813.
