eMachines Selects WorldCom

WorldCom , the business data and Internet communications provider, today announced that eMachines, Inc., the desktop personal computers provider has selected WorldCom to host and manage the Web site for its new online direct sales channel.

eMachines, which was founded in September, 1998 and sells its products through retailers internationally in addition to catalog and online merchandisers, says it was looking to offer more consumers direct access to its products.

It turned to WorldCom with the support of its managed Web and application hosting affiliate Digex , to launch its first e-commerce Web site.

The site will enable customers to purchase eMachines PC products online using interactive tools and product comparison information.

"Because our new online sales channel is a key strategy for our company, we considered the selection of our Web hosting provider to be an equally strategic decision," said Murray Bognovitz, vice president, online experience for eMachines.

"By choosing WorldCom to manage its Web site operations, eMachines will be saving time, money and in-house IT resources, valuable assets that can now be devoted to what it does best," says Ron McMurtrie, vice president of WorldCom Global e-Services.

WorldCom offers a suite of Web hosting services from Web server colocation to shared, dedicated and custom managed hosting services.

Its services run over the company's global IP network and through its data centers located across the United States, Europe and Asia Pacific.
