SkillSoft Tallies $10M

SkillSoft , a Nashua, N.H., provider of e-learning software for business and IT professionals, has signed seven new deals totaling $10 million.

Customers include telecom carrier Verizon, auto maker General Motors, and financial service advisor JD Edwards. Other buyers are from the energy, transportation, and federal government sectors.

Under the multi-year pacts, thousands of employees will have access to SkillSoft's 1,200 course catalog.

"Even in a tough economic environment, business skills training continues to be an area in which organizations recognize the need for continual investment," said Chuck Moran, SkillSoft's president and CEO. "The cost efficiency and easy deployment of e-learning gives it an advantage over other types of training delivery."

The contracts included: SkillPort, a Web-based platform for setting curricula, course administration, and tracking progress; SkillSimulations, products designed to reinforce skills acquired through previous courses; and SalesPort, a sales training offering.

Shares of SKIL jumped 2.19, or 12 percent, to 20.1 at midday. In the last 52 weeks, the issue has traded between 14.19 and 38.94.
