The NetObjects Matrix platform, announced last week, will support the Apple Macintosh, including support for Apple's latest operating system, Mac OS X.

"Mac OS X combines a powerful UNIX-based foundation with the Mac's ease-of-use to deliver superior performance, unprecedented stability and powerful Internet features that make the Mac the ideal platform for Web development," said Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "We're excited that NetObjects has brought its new Matrix platform to Mac OS X and is now part of the growing list of Mac OS X applications."

Matrix's open, component-based interfaces allow NetObjects to register and integrate third-party Web Services seamlessly into the Web site building and hosting process – giving small businesses the ability to "mix and match" Web Services to create a truly tailored e-business solution.

These integrated third-party services delivered through the platform include NetLedger's 1 System small business management software, Miva's Merchant e-commerce solution, LivePerson's eCRM offerings, professional images licensed from Corbis and Web hosting solutions from EarthLink.

"With the success of the Mac, there has been an increase in the demand for products like ours to support the platform," said Mark Patton, executive vice president, products and services, NetObjects. "We have great synergy with Apple, as the Mac appeals to so many small businesses, and NetObjects solutions are developed with the small business end-user in mind."

Netobjects announced on Monday plans for a new Web Services project to be unveiled later this year by IBM Global Services, aimed at helping smaller, less technically sophisticated and budget-strapped organizations get online.
