The company said the DoJ had informed AMD (NYSE: AMD) and ATI Technologies on Friday that it had closed its investigation into ATI Technologies' pricing and marketing practices in the sale of graphics processing units.
AMD entered the graphics business after acquiring Canadian company ATI Technologies in October 2006. The DoJ started its probe in December 2006, when it issued subpoenas to AMD and nVidia (NASDAQ: NVDA)
At the time, industry observers agreed that nVidia and ATI had similar pricing on a number of graphics products, but argued that the condition likely resulted from "intense competition," rather than collusion.
