ABA to Use Additional Funding for Online Work

The Australian Broadcasting Authority (ABA) announced it will use additional funding handed down in the Federal government's new budget for work associated with the regulation of online services.

Seven of the ABA's $10.5 million granted will be used over a four year period for the implementation of a regulatory framework for online content, proposed under the recently announced Broadcasting Services Amendment (Online Services) Bill 1999.

The ABA will oversee the development of industry codes of practice and determine standards where there are no codes or where codes are deficient or fail. It will also investigate complaints from the public about online content.
