Government Beefs Up Regeneration Web Site

The UK government Thursday said it is making the Regen.net Web site, launched last February, into a focus for the New Deal for Communities (NDC) programme.

The purpose of the £800 million (US$ 1.27 billion) NDC is to help economic and social recovery in the poorest neighbourhoods of Britain. A new forum on Regen.net will allow experts and other people to exchange ideas.

"Over the coming weeks, Regen.net will focus on the New Deal for Communities. Key to its success will be putting partnerships, local people, and service providers in touch with each other to exchange information, advice and experience," said Regions and Regeneration Minister Richard Caborn.

This week, 600 experts have been meeting in Brighton at the first National Regeneration Convention. Many of them have been testing the site and exploring its facilities.

At Regen.net, users will find articles, lists of key contacts, and access to all the NDC guidance currently available.
