CustomTracks Sues Critical Path

CustomTracks Corp. this week filed a lawsuit against Critical Path, Inc., accusing the e-mail hosting service provider of violating a confidentiality agreement involving security technology.

The suit, filed late Thursday, alleges Critical Path violated a confidentiality agreement and misappropriated trade secrets.

Critical Path claims it will "vigorously dispute" the lawsuit.

The disputed violation occurred over digital signatures, encryption technology and related applications, said CustomTrack chairman and CEO David Cook.

CustomTracks seeks a temporary restraining order and a preliminary injunction to cut off Critical Path's access to CustomTrack's confidential information.

CustomTracks is developing an Internet transaction system expected to be operational by September, and a digital signature and encryption system is expected to be released by August. The company is also exploring additional Internet-related businesses.

Critical Path's CEO Doug Hickey defended the company's ethical conduct, stating that the firm is "not aware of any facts that would justify the alleged lawsuit."
