Sprint Betting On Wireless

In its second wireless deal in less than two weeks, Sprint PCS Tuesday partnered with Nokia to offer Web-capable dual-band and single-band Nokia phones with service delivered through the Sprint PCS wireless network, in a deal worth up to $500 million.

The contract between Sprint PCS and Nokia calls for the delivery of a minimum of $360 million worth of Nokia PCS phones, with potential increase in the contract topping the $500 million mark.

While the browser-capable Nokia 6185 phones have already began shipping, the browser will not be added to the device until the fall.

The two companies will also launch a national advertising campaign with 7-UP, with Sprint PCS Nokia phones as one of the summer-long promotion's prizes.

Sprint PCS's recent content deal with Yahoo! for wireless phone subscribers is expected to become available in the fourth quarter.
