Business software maker PeopleSoft Wednesday said it has acquired Burlingame, Calif.-based Teamscape Corp. for an undisclosed amount.
Privately owned Teamscape makes a Web-based JavaBeans-enabled learning platform that helps companies train their workforce on new products and services.
The company claim Teamscape's assets make it the "first major enterprise vendor to deliver a fully integrated enterprise learning management solution."
The acquisition is significant considering PeopleSoft's services such as consulting, maintenance, and training account for about two-thirds of the company's sales.
Pleasanton, Calif.-based PeopleSoft said it plans on using Teamscape's domain expertise and product capability to pad its own Enterprise Learning solution. PeopleSoft said their version of the technology would be available in the fourth quarter of 2002.
"Our entire organization is excited about joining the PeopleSoft team," said Teamscape CEO and founder Mani Iyer. "The combination of Teamscape and PeopleSoft represents the most compelling solution for enterprise learning on the market."
PeopleSoft Enterprise Learning solution, announced back in April, includes a new Intelligent Context Manager and enhancements to strengthen its Web Services capabilities. The platform lets companies plan and manage corporate learning requirements and track and measure learning effectiveness.
"To be successful in today's hyper-competitive markets, organizations are demanding the ability to integrate learning into all of their business processes to drive performance," said Doug Merritt, vice president and general manager, PeopleSoft Human Capital Management. "The PeopleSoft Enterprise Learning solution is designed to enable this type of dynamic learning."
