Real Climbs on WebTV Pact

Streaming media pioneer Real Networks Inc. climbed for a second day Friday as investors continue to bid up the stock following its pact with Microsoft's WebTV Networks.

Just before noon, internet.com's Internet Stock Index was up 2.42, or .44 percent, to 558.08, the Nasdaq Composite was up 20.04 to 2,726.22 and the Dow Jones industrial average had gained 45.27 to 11,111.69.

Real Networks Inc. (RNWK) jumped 8-3/4 to 86-5/8. Microsoft said Thursday it will add support for the latest version of Real Audio in its set-top boxes. While WebTV users will be able to receive G2 audio, they will not be able to view Real video.

As part of the pact, Real will develop a new audio player for Microsoft's Windows CE operating system for non-PC devices.

Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO) was off 1-1/4 to 176 in advance of its earnings report next week. Other leaders were mixed with America Online Inc. (AOL) up 1-5/16 to 113-7/16, Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) up 3/4 to 123-1/8 and eBay Inc. (EBAY) down 4-11/32 to 145-5/16. Earlier this week, the online auctioneer had another series of short outages.

Clarent Corp. (CLRN) soared 9-3/8 to 34-7/8. The company, which sells Internet phone systems to telecommunications companies, jumped 70 percent on its first day of trading Thursday.

24/7 Media Inc. (TFSM) had climbed 2-9/16 to 40-1/8. The company announced it has booked $13 million in direct marketing packages since launching the new service in April.
