Korea Telecom will have access to AboveNet's significant bandwidth, which currently totals 10.5 Gbps, according to company sources.
In addition, Korea Telecom will also have access to AboveNet's more than 257 private and public peering relationships with leading ISPs in the U.S. and around the world.
Korea's other ISP giant, DACOM, is also located at AboveNet giving the bandwidth provider a majority of Korean traffic coming to the U.S.
"AboveNet's policy of not competing with its ISP and telco customers allows them to use their own routing equipment and establish additional peering relationships," said Jerry Chen, AboveNet vice president for the Asia Pacific Region.
AboveNet has clients in the region from Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Philippines and Australia which bring a total of more than 950 Mbps of capacity to its network.
