CDnow, Lycos Bertelsmann in Euro Distribution Deal

CDnow, Inc. will become the exclusive music retailer for Europe's Lycos Bertelsmann in a $5.5 million agreement announced today by the companies.
Terms of the deal call for CDnow to sell and distribute music-related products via Lycos Bertelsmann in 11 countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland, as well as the United Kingdom.
European visitors to Lycos Bertelsman will be able to view CDnow content in languages such as Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, and Spanish.
"CDnow is the Internet's most established online music brand and has a clear commitment to the European market," said Christoph Mohn, CEO of Lycos Bertelsmann. "With multiple translations and local distribution, CDnow offers consumers in Europe the best online music store experience. There is a huge demand in Europe to purchase music on the Internet, and this alliance makes buying music online easier, faster, and more accessible than ever before."
The company also announced yesterday an expansion of its agreement with Yahoo! under which CDnow will become the premier retailer of music for Yahoo! Mail and music chat rooms.
