The Commonwealth of Virginia is introducing a new application for filing and paying sales, use, and withholding taxes over the Internet. The application, called iFile for Business, was developed in partnership between the Virginia Department of Taxation (TAX) and American Management Systems (AMS), an international technology consulting firm based in Fairfax, Va.
In addition to filing and paying taxes, the iFile for Business application provides the first in the nation account management capabilities by allowing business taxpayers to view the past 12 months worth of account history online. Future plans for iFile for Business include integrating the application with the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) allowing taxpayers to file and pay unemployment insurance taxes.
"The iFile for Business application is an example of how The Digital Dominion will not merely duplicate old services on the Web, but will provide new opportunities for citizens to manage their relationships with their government," said Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore. "This latest offering from the Department of Taxation gives the citizens of Virginia unprecedented access to their tax account information, and provides a stepping stone for integrating services across traditional government boundaries."
The iFile for Business application is part of TAX's comprehensive strategy to Web-enable all tax transactions and provide state of the art customer service for the citizens of Virginia.
"iFile stands as a fine example of what eGovernment can mean to citizens," said Donna Morea, AMS executive vice president, State & Local Solutions. "Creating a process that allows businesses to easily and efficiently interact with their government is the core purpose of iFile and Virginia's high-value eGovernment initiatives."
The iFile for Business application is the first major Internet initiative to come out of a public-private partnership between TAX and AMS. The partnership will provide a new state revenue management system, as well as a series of customer service initiatives, and will completely re-engineer both the technology and operations at TAX.
"The use of technology to meet taxpayer needs will enhance Virginia's reputation as a leader in providing the highest quality government services," added Secretary of Finance Ronald L. Tillett. "And the partnership between TAX and AMS stands as an example of the benefits that can be gained by joining government and the private sector to bring state of the art business solutions to government."
