TravelWeb Climbs Aboard Broadcast.com

Broadcast.com and Pegasus Systems, Inc.'s TravelWeb today announced a Web advertising and distribution agreement in which TravelWeb becomes the exclusive full-service travel reservations provider on broadcast.com.

TravelWeb said it also becomes the first Web site to integrate messages into broadcast.com's streaming multimedia programming.

Under the terms of the agreement, broadcast.com will provide interactive multimedia Web advertising services, including multimedia and traditional banner ads; audio and video gateway ads which run before and during programming; and sponsorship of broadcast.com's channels. No financial details were disclosed.

TravelWeb's promotional messages will also be integrated into broadcast.com's content, the firms stated. The travel service will target localized ads through broadcast.com's network of 350 college and professional sports teams and 345 radio station affiliates such as BBC radio.

For example, a user who is listening to a University of Arkansas college football game will be delivered a customized message promoting travel services to Arkansas. "This allows us to target our marketing to specific destination markets on a global basis," said John F. Davis III, president and CEO of Pegasus Systems.

"This arrangement takes us beyond the standard Internet 'portal real estate' deal," Davis added. "Not only does it provide us with premier placement on one of the Web's most popular sites, but it positions us to take advantage of the next wave of the Internet--multimedia convergence."

TravelWeb is a service of Pegasus Systems, Inc., offering online reservations for more than 300 airlines and 21,000 hotels. During the first half of 1998, the company reported that consumers booked approximately $20 million worth of hotel rooms through TravelWeb.

Broadcast.com is an aggregator and broadcaster of streaming media programming on the Web. It offers services including programming, including sports, talk and music radio, television, business events, full-length CDs, news, commentary and full-length audio books, and serves a reported average of over 400,000 unique users per day.
