Cable & Wireless Launches Internet Services in Korea

As part of its regional expansion plans, Cable & Wireless Tuesday announced the launch of its Internet business in South Korea.

The Republic of Korea's Ministry of Information and Communications has awarded Cable & Wireless Asia with a licence to provide Internet access and value-added services.

The telecom is targetting business customers in Korea with lease line and dial-up Internet acces, IP-VPN service for company intranets and extranets, and value-added services such as web-hosting security services, facility management and co-location services.

C&W Asia is 50 percent owned by Cable & Wireless HKT and 50 percent by its parent company, Cable & Wireless plc.

C&W HKT has operated in Korea since 1994, providing local support to Korean customers as well as overseas multinationals which use International Private Leased Circuits and other data network service.

Last month, C&W Asia formed a joint venture company with Singapore-based Creative Technology Ltd, Cable & Wireless Network Services (Singapore) Pte Ltd, offering IP-enabled and e-Commerce solutions in Singapore.
