QXL.com Launches in the Netherlands

Internet auctioneer QXL.com has launched a new auction site in the Netherlands.

The latest site, www.qxl.nl, is QXL.com's fifth in Europe, following launches in France, Germany, Italy and the UK.

"The launch in Holland is consistent with our European expansion strategy," said Jim Rose, QXL.com's CEO.

"QXL.com auction sites in the UK, France, Germany and Italy have been very successful, and we are confident this will be the case in Holland. E-commerce in Europe is currently experiencing phenomenal growth and we are well-positioned to meet this increasing demand from European consumers."

The managing director for QXL's Dutch venture is Michiel van der Meer, a marketing professional with 13 years experience in the industry. He was formerly a member of the management team at online publisher Planet Internet and managing director of OZZ Interactive.

QXL.nl plans to auction a full range of merchandise and services, from computer software and hardware, consumer electronics, household appliances and collectibles to travel-related items and sports equipment.

As on other QXL sites, consumers will be able to generate their own web auctions, and sell items such as antiques, toys, stamps and videos.

The potential looks good for QXL.nl. Recently, International Data Corp. estimated that there will be 7.5 million Internet users in the Netherlands by 2002.
