Canadian Broadcasting Corp. To Relaunch News Site

CBC.CA next week will relauch its site with a new user interface.

With a stronger focus on news and information, the redesign will offer standard navigation throughout the site, search and contact features, improved business, weather and sports coverage, and new sections dedicated to consumer affairs and interactivity.

CBC.CA says the changes are all part of its goal is to become Canada's leading online information source.

"We can't expect Canadians to turn to CBC.CA for their news and information simply because we are a Canadian alternative to sites such as CNN and the BBC," said Ken Wolff, executive producer of CBC.CA's online news service.

"We have to prove that the service we provide is as good -- if not better -- than anything else Canadians can get online. I think we've done that."

Implementation of the new design will begin on November 1 and be completed on November 4. Further enhancements to the site will be phased in over the next few months.

"The CBC's commitment to high-quality, distinctively Canadian programming remains, no matter what the medium," said John Lewis, executive director of CBC New Media.
