New Portal Launches in Latin America

Brazilian firm ZAZ teamed up with other worldwide Internet leaders this week to launch its new portal, Terra.

Terra offers portal sites for users in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Spain Guatemala, Mexico and Peru.

"We are starting a new dimension for our clients, plenty of news and new products", said Silvia de Jesus, CEO of ZAZ.

The new portals claim to have more than 800,000 clients and 300 million page hits each month. the company said that it will invest in infrastructure and content so that it can stay ahead in the Internet industry in the regions where it is present.

"So far we relied on important local names, but we needed a global brand, with a unique identity that would make us stand out in the Internet in our real dimension: the leading Internet company in Portuguese and Spanish languages markets", says Juan Perea, president at Terra Networks.

The name Terra (Earth) was chosen by research firm FutureBrand. According to its studies, the "Earth" concept helps to reinforce the main objective of the company -- to offer clients the highest value in local and global solutions without any cultural or language barrier.

Terra will be operated by newly formed Terra Networks Inc., an access and content provider for the Portuguese and Spanish languages. Before the end of this year the company plans to offer Internet access services and a gate focused on the Spanish community present in the United States.
