Financial terms of the agreement between the two private firms were not disclosed. Thinq (which changed its name from TrainingNet.com in June) employs more than 230 people in numerous offices worldwide, while Baltimore-based TrainingServer has more than 130 employees. The merged company would be based in Billerica and operate as Thinq.
Thinq is a large learning-content aggregator that has 3,000 training providers, 50 partners and 50 corporate customers in the United States. TrainingServer develops and deploys learning-management systems at large corporations such as Lucent, BMW North America, Citigroup, and UPS. TrainingServer currently has more than 4 million active corporate users.
Hemang Dave will remain CEO of Thinq, while TrainingServer founder and CEO Ted Bayer will become Thinq's co-chairman. Ray Maskell, chief operating officer at TraininServer, will become COO ot Thinq.
In February, Thinq received $33.7 million in third-round venture funding. In April, the company acquired two training companies in the U.K.
