RSA Security Opens Ireland Plant

The Bedford, Mass., maker of encryption software has opened a new plant in Shannon, Ireland, to be closer to its European customers.

RSA Security, a Bedford, Mass., maker of encryption software, has opened a new plant in Shannon, Ireland.

From the facility, RSA will perform the final programming for its SecurID product and provide service and support to its partners and customers in Europe, Africa and Asia. RSA now has offices in more than 30 countries and strategic partners in 20 more.

"With the opening of our new facility in Shannon, we believe RSA Security customers, including Credit Suisse, Lufthansa and Rolls Royce & Bentley Motor Cars, will benefit from the enhanced level of service we can offer," said Art Coviello, RSA's president and CEO.

The Shannon office will house more than 25 employees and will be headed by Hugh Kavanaugh, managing director.

Mary Harney, Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment in Ireland, said the company's arrival "will add to the country's emerging profile as a leading e-business center in Europe." The new plant was backed by Shannon Development, an economic development agency.

Shares of RSAS were off 0.49, or 2 percent, to 29.69 on Thursday. In the last year, the issue has ranged between 18.44 and 30.35.
