Headhunter.net's employment postings already appear will supply Yahoo! Careers content at http://careers.yahoo.com in a partnership that became effective today. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"This is huge," Craig Stamm, Headhunter.net's CFO, said. "Obviously it's the biggest marketing agreement in any team-approached combination that we've put together since we've been in this business."
Tanya Singer, producer of Yahoo! Careers, said that in the past, her company's job listings were provided by a multitude of companies throughout the U.S., but the decision to sign one firm as a provider of content was an important step in an ongoing effort for Yahoo! to reach a wider audience.
"Our strategy in the past was to aggregate listings from a lot of different sites. But we've made improvements to our site, and in that process, one of the things that we've heard over and over again is that job listings are very popular on our site. We have to make our job seekers happy, so in terms of looking at who's out there, Headhunter was the best out there. They've really not just focused on a handfull of markets, but instead they cover many markets nationwide. Because Yahoo! users are so diverse, that just made them a very good fit for us."
Stamm said the agreement took a while to cement, but once it did, it was clear that both companies could mutually benefit from the alliance.
"We bring to them a significant asset as well," he said. "The quality and diversity of our jobs, and the diversity of our core customer base, was very attractive to Yahoo!. The one thing I'll say about Yahoo! is, when they pick companies to do strategic partnerships with, they shop long and hard, so it's a tribute to Headhunter that when they surveyed the landscape of job listing companies, and we were chosen as Miss America.
According to Stamm, two other assets played a role in why Headhunter.Net was selected.
"First, it's relationship, which is extremely important to Yahoo! and Headhunter. We were not getting into this for one month or two months. We really wanted to make sure that from a relationship perspective, we really work well together. Another factor is Headhunter.net's sales forece. We have 150 sales representativess across the country in 16 different markets who have taken a consultative approach to really working with our corporate customers and we explain to them how to most effectively use online recruiting. If 30 days out, and the customer is not getting a sufficient number of contacts, our customer service people will call them and consult with them about how they could enhance searches on that job. That's not a reactive thing, that's a proactive thing."
