AT&T Completes IBM Acquisition in Brazil

AT&T has completed the acquisition of IBM's global network in Brazil, absorbing all their resources and 85 employees, in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Now operating under the name AT&T Global Network Services (AT&T GNS), the IBM network business, formerly IGN (IBM Global Network), has been absorbed by network services unit AT&T Solutions Group.

The acquisition of IGN by AT&T, for US$ 5 billion in cash, is to be gradually completed this year, as legal and regulatory issues are dealt with in each of the 59 countries the unit served. In Latin America the first countries to complete this process were Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico.

"It has presence in 13 Latin American countries and is now supported by the huge global reach of IGN and its experience in management services, AT&T will be able to offer the major solutions portfolio of IP networking in the industry. In Latin America AT&T GNS offers virtual private network services, frame relay and high speed Internet access, among others," says Mario Mongini, vice president and manager at AT&T Global Network Services in Latin America.

AT&T GNS offers a managing services portfolio for network connectivity, collaboration and outsourcing.
