Post-Newsweek will join CanWest, Hearst-Argyle Television and IBS, in a partnership for a North American network of local convergence-based Web portals.
The Web network, which combines national services and localized content, is the first announced North American network of localized TV-Internet brands from multiple TV providers.
"The addition of six more major market stations and a strategic partner with the outstanding reputation as The Washington Post Company bodes well for the future of this online network," said Leonard Asper, president and CEO of CanWest.
"We're actively building the only national network of Web channels that integrates digital and broadcast content, audiences, advertising and e-commerce services," said Tolman Geffs, CEO of IBS.
"We believe this will be North America's leading presence in localized TV-Internet branding, cross-promotion and e-commerce. Our goal, working with CanWest Interactive, Hearst-Argyle, and now Post-Newsweek, is to build a network to serve North American households."
