Two of Australia's biggest players in the Internet market, Telstra and ninemsn, have signed with Media Metrix for the provision of panel ratings for the year 2000.
In addition to these companies, auction site eBay, and Internet professional services company XT3, have also entered into contracts with Media Metrix. The company is also finalising contracts with several other clients, who will be announced before the end of the year.
"It's very gratifying to open our client list with such notable names," said David Stewart-Hunter, chief executive, Media Metrix. "Our company is the de facto industry standard in the US, and, with the support of these industry leaders, I believe that we are on our way to occupying a similar position in Australia."
Telstra's contract will also cover ad hoc research which will be carried out by AMR Interactive, Media Metrix's partner company in Australia.
"Telstra sees the Internet as a clear growth priority for the company and is pleased to work with Media Metrix," he said.
"We believe Media Metrix is committed to providing the most comprehensive and reliable Web measurement products, and we are convinced their services will support our strategies for growth," said Kim Anderson, director of marketing & network services, ninemsn. "Media Metrix has the ability to give us a true indication of how our sites relate to those of our competitors, which is a critically important issue for us."
