Cisco Buys Worldwide Data Systems

Cisco Systems, Inc. did some holiday shopping Thursday, purchasing network consultancy firm Worldwide Data Systems for approximately $25.5 million in stock.
The all-stock deal is part of Cisco's (CSCO) strategy to expand its data and voice networks for corporate customers, the firm said. The acquisition is expected to close in the second quarter of next year.
Worldwide Data Systems provides an methods and procedures for the design, implementation and delivery of Internet-based data, voice and video networks. It offers consulting, engineering, network design modeling, interoperability/integration testing, training and associated support services.
Cisco said that through the acquisition it will be able to offer is partners an expanded range of networking services. Worldwide Data System's resources will also allow Cisco to increase deployment, services and support of networks, it said.
