Broadband operators will be able to combine nCUBE's scalable video servers with Microsoft's (MSFT) client platform for a variety of applications utilizing video-on-demand, including movies-on-demand, advertising on-demand and video-enhanced e-commerce.
nCUBE's video server, the MediaCUBE 4, can be scaled from 80 simultaneous 3 Mb/s streams to 44,000 simultaneous streams and can simultaneously deliver MPEG-2, MPEG-1 and mid bit-rate video. nCUBE's VOD Client application supports both the RTSP and DSM-CC standards for stream control, providing broadband operators a choice in how to integrate VOD into their interactive service offerings. nCUBE has already deployed several VOD solutions utilizing Windows 98-based client platforms.
"With this relationship, network operators using Microsoft TV will be able to take advantage of nCUBE's scalability and reliability when deploying video-on-demand," said Alan Yates, director of marketing for the Microsoft TV Platform group. "We look forward to working with nCUBE in delivering this technology."
