Videotron Sets Precedent in Internet Access Resale

Videotron ltee has set a precedent in cable high-speed Internet resale by signing agreements with two independent ISPs.

The deal is in line with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission's (CRTC) terms established last September. In its decision, the CRTC requires cable carriers to sell their Internet services to other ISPs under specified terms and conditions.

Videotron signed its first agreement earlier this week with an undisclosed ISP and just concluded a similar agreement with Net Communications inc.

"We will definitely take advantage of this business opportunity," declared Guy R. Beauchamp, executive vice president of Videotron ltee.

"We are excited about this partnership with Videotron as we will now be able to offer high-speed Internet to our customers," said Luc Beland, president of Net Communications inc.

Videotron ltee, a subsidiary of Le Groupe Videotron ltee is the largest cable television company in Quebec in terms of number of subscribers. With a broadband network that reaches 2.3 million homes, the company also offers interactive television services, pay TV and pay-per-view, as well as high-speed Internet access.
