ricardo.de: Hermes to Deliver

Internet auction house ricardo.de has decided to leave the shipping of its 15,000 packages a month to Hermes General Services.

Hermes is the subsidiary of the mail-order company, Otto, which will be responsible for both storage and shipping.

"Hermes represents for us a 'one-stop solution' for the entire delivery logistics sector," commented Jens Redmer, head of business development.

The ricardo.de board of directors wanted an all-round solution, according to Redmer.

ricardo.de also sees good perspectives for further growth due to the global presence of Hermes.

The new logistics will enable private customers to have a privately auctioned package picked up from their home, which will then be delivered to the bidder within the next two days. The maximum cost of this service will be 24 Marks ($13); for bigger and bulkier packages, a surcharge of 18 Marks ($10) will be added to the price.
