Net2Phone, 3Com Develop VoIP Modems

Net2Phone Inc. and network solutions provider 3Com Corp. Tuesday agreed to marry their technologies to develop modems for Internet telephony.

Net2Phone's (NTOP) software enables computer users to place calls from a multimedia computer to any telephone, PC, or fax machine anywhere in the world at reduced rates. Through integration with the 3Com's (COMS) desktop and internal modems, the companies expect to increase modem usage as well as Internet telephony usage, enabling lower cost phone calls worldwide at high quality.

"3Com's modem customers are a natural customer base for Net2Phone," said Yonah Lloyd, vice-president of business development for Net2Phone. "Net2Phone and 3Com will expand and enhance that Internet experience, allowing them to enjoy real-time conversations in PC-to-Phone or PC-to-PC mode and sending their voice as an e-mail attachment."

3Com offers e-networking solutions through information access products and network systems.

Net2Phone provides voice-enhanced Internet communications services to individuals and businesses worldwide.
