E-mail hosting company Critical Path Inc. Monday purchased message board provider RemarQ Communities Inc. in a move to bulk up its services to its corporate customers.

With the acquisition, Critical Path (CPTH) will add RemarQ's estimated 850 Internet service providers and corporations to its client list, including high-profile customers Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO), AltaVista and Novell, Inc. (NOVL).

By combining RemarQ's message board technology with Critical Path's Internet messaging tools, Critical Path will offer customers a robust integrated messaging platforms, with increased functionality, flexibility and choice, said Doug Hickey, chief executive officer of Critical Path.

"Collaboration tools are essential in today's environment," he said. "RemarQ serves top-tier outsourcing customers... and the proven scalability of its technology will help Critical Path bolster its position as the only provider of complete end-to-end Internet messaging solutions."

The RemarQ acquisition builds on Critical Path's strategy to build a global infrastructure and provide comprehensive Internet messaging and collaboration solutions.
