NIIT, Telstra Form Indian Business ISP

NIIT and Telstra this week formed an alliance to form a corporate Internet service provider in India.

The alliance will offer total Internet service solutions to market in India and the Asia-Pacific.

Under this agreement, Delhi-based global IT solutions firm NIIT will provide application solutions for enterprises using Telstra's managed networking infrastructure and hosting capabilities.

Aravind Thakur, president, Software Business, NIIT told asia.internet.com that the ISP would focus on corporations which require both domestic and global data services.

Telstra's focus on convergent business -- data, Internet, e-commerce and content applications -- combined with a single-source angle is expected to bring in a significant market share, according to Thakur.

In India, Telstra proposes to deliver its part of the Telstra NIIT package through Testra V-Comm, a joint venture between Testra, VSNL and IL&FS.

The deal also plays into NIIT's plans to rapidly transitioning itself as an e-business corporation.

NIIT has staff strength of over 4000 operating in 35 countries through 100 percent subsidiaries in the U.S., Europe, Asia Pacific, China, Japan and India. The Far Eastern Economic Review has ranked NIIT among its "Top 10 Indian Tigers" in its Annual Review covering Asia's 200 leading companies.
