Bid.com, Research in Motion Enter Strategic Alliance

Bid.Com International and Research In Motion Limited Wednesday entered into an e-commerce alliance.

The companies confirmed plans this week to develop and market products and services that enable secure wireless interaction and e-commerce transactions utilizing Bid.Com's (BIDS) online auction products and services and RIM's (RIMM) wireless products and services.

The partners will focus on developing wireless auction applications for business-to-business and business-to-consumer markets based on RIM's wireless handhelds.

The two companies will also engage in joint business development activities to foster solutions based on RIM's BlackBerry Internet Edition and Bid.Com's online auctions and e-commerce technology.

"Business-to-business users need both timely information and transaction security to benefit from mobile commerce," said David Werezak, vice president of marketing at Research In Motion.

"The 'Always On, Always Connected' design of RIM wireless handhelds supports these requirements and allows online auction applications to be enhanced and extended to mobile environments."

Research In Motion Limited is a designer, manufacturer, and marketer of innovative wireless solutions for the mobile communications market.

Bid.Com operates in Canada, the U.S., Ireland and Australia.
