Ticketmaster Online-CitySearch Wednesday made a move to bring its content and services to the plug-free world by creating a wireless strategy group.
Ticketmaster Online-CitySearch (TMCS) said the move is designed to capitalize on the growing demand for wireless content and services. Included in the company's strategy are partnerships with industry players AvantGo, Nokia and Palm, Inc.
With the partnerships, users of Wireless Application Protocol (WAP)-enabled phones, as well as handheld devices, based on the Windows CE operating system and Palm computing platform, to access TMCS information wirelessly or via cradle synchronization. The company is also a premier partner on the Palm VII, allowing users to purchase tickets on a wireless device and is working with Nokia to support their cooperative efforts to support WAP and the growing demand for mobility.
"Whether it's looking at a restaurant review, buying tickets to a show or scheduling a tee time, our blend of local content and services is ideally suited for the wireless world," said John Pleasants, president of TMCS. "As a comprehensive provider of reservations, local content and tickets, TMCS will soon offer one-stop shopping for wireless companies."
