Xerox Taps Internet with New Fax Machines

Xerox Corp. Friday released a new family of business multifunction fax products designed to tie connectivity of the Net to the fax machine.

The WorkCentre Pro product line offers traditional fax, copy, PC or network print, scan, and PC or LAN fax capabilities to workgroups ranging in size from one to 25 users. Some models also offer fax-to-e-mail capability.

Fax-to-e-mail and LAN fax enable users to scan hardcopy documents into digital form and send the information to an e-mail account or another Internet fax-capable device. Users may also read received digital information from other Internet fax devices or e-mail accounts.

The WorkCentre Pro models feature high speed scanning, printing, and paper capacity up to 1750 sheets. The systems are packaged with a range of software, including TextBridge Pro 9.0 scanning and OCR software, DocuLAN Fax Personal Edition version 7.0 software, and Xerox' exclusive ControlCentre software.

Ray Valukonis, vice president and general manager, Xerox (XRX) Workgroup Fax Business Team, said the product roll-out comes at time when the Net fax market, according to International Data Corp., is "projected to grow from 10,000 units shipped in 1998 to 2.9 million units shipped by 2002."

The new lines are scheduled to be released this April and May and will be priced from $1,195 and $3,195.
