When completed, the network will span 21 cities in the U.S. and Canada serving up wholesale Internet access and long distance telephone services across its wholly converged fiber network.
Lucent (LU) will provide Gateway Networks with an integrated solution consisting of its wide area network access switches, Digital Subscriber Line concentrators, Internet Call Diversion softswitches, and Lucent's multi-service access management product.
Jim Blumson, Gateway Telecom Canada Inc. president and chief executive officer, said the strategic relationship with Lucent allows Gateway to create a wholesale telecom superstore.
Gateway is currently deploying the Lucent products in its own central offices as well as the COs of incumbent local exchange carriers. It plans to complete the buildout by the end of this year.
