Monster.com Stomps Into Hong Kong

Recruitment portal Monster.com announced plans this week for the launch of its Hong Kong site, Monster.com.hk.

Tom Freed, managing director of Monster.com.hk, said that the company sees itself as a global career management network. He said that the job market is now global, but that Monster (TMPW) is committed to providing relevant and meaningful local content.

"Local relevance is very important," Freed said. "Career issues in Hong Kong are very different to what people experience in the US and Australia.

"The economy in HK is picking up from the Asian economic crisis, with optimism among companies and the labor force. We now see more companies hiring and employees being more pro-active in planning their careers."

Monster.com is the flagship brand of the Interactive Division of TMP Worldwide Inc.

Headquartered in New York, TMP Worldwide is a yellow page advertising agency, a provider of direct marketing services and online recruitment agency.

Monster.com relies on revenue streams delivered through sales of services, job listings, and advertising space. It has over 14 million unique visits per month, company officials said.

Monster.com's global network consists of local content and language sites in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and New Zealand.
