Wishlist Adds WAP

Online department etailer Wishlist has launched its Wireless Applkication Protocol (WAP) e-commerce Web site in partnership with Telstra.

WapWishlist will feature on the Telstra mobile portal site under the 'Shopping' menu, allowing online shoppers to access Wishlist's range of gifts from their mobile phones.

"The product can be chosen at any time through your mobile phone, and then wrapped and delivered to your destination," said Wishlist chief executive officer Huy Trong.

"Telstra.com mobile will allows shoppers to access Wishlist in real time, just as we access the Internet through our PC," said Trong.

First-time users must register their financial details on the Wishlist site before making a purchase from their WAP-enabled phone. Shoppers can then select a gift, style of wrapping, write a message on the card and deliver it nationally and internationally.

Rival telecommunications company Cable & Wireless Optus is also expected to announce WAP shopping for its mobile phone customers over the next few weeks.

The carrier recently signed a deal with Internet retailer dstore to provide online shoppers with access to the site's books, CDs and other items.

By the end of this week both carriers are expected to be charging mobile phone owners to use WAP.

The Telstra Wishlist site has been operational since last week, and the service is available today.
