eBay (Nasdaq: EBAY) is certainly not taking a siesta when it comes to expanding its empire.
The San Jose-based online auction site Wednesday says it's penned a deal with Spanish online media giant Terra Lycos (Nasdaq: TRLY) to put eBay's listings and categories onto the popular Lycos Auctions Web site.
"The Lycos Network has tremendous reach and opens another door for eBay," says eBay senior VP and general manager Jeff Jordon.
While terms of the agreement were not discussed, eBay says the deal will make it easier for the tens of millions of Lycos users to have immediate access to eBay's millions of listings in more than 9,000 categories. In addition, eBay will be a featured advertiser on the Lycos Network, including sites such as Angelfire.com, ATuHora.com, Gamesville.com, HotBot.com, Invertia.com, Lycos Zone, Matchmaker.com, Quote.com, Rumbo.com, Sonique, Tripod.com, RagingBull.com and Wired News (Wired.com).
"Adding eBay's breadth to Lycos Auctions creates a must-visit destination that keeps our customers in our network while generating additional revenue for Terra Lycos," says Terra Lycos vice president of media Mark Stoever.
The agreement should also boost eBay's quest to snare the online auction space away from competitors Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) and Yahoo! (Nasdaq: YHOO).
One thing in eBay's favor in crossing the Spanish language barrier is the recent signing of LiveWorld to a marketing deal for its multi-lingual community discussion forums and online polls.
