Your online site for all things funny, LAUGH.com Tuesday says it inked a deal (not with disappearing ink) with Universal Music Group (UMG).
"We're proud to have UMG, the world's largest music company, as a partner, and that's not just because UMG is an anagram for GUM," says company bigwig Bob Kohn.
Under the terms of the non-exclusive deal, UMG will license substantially all of LAUGH.com's comedy sound recordings to later be streamed, on-demand, to U.S. customers.
Santa Monica and Pacific Grove, Calif.-based LAUGH.com provides its consumers with a monthly service, which gives them unlimited access to comedy skits and performances over the Internet.
"I'm still breaking up over this deal," says Larry Kenswil, President, Universal Music Group's eLabs. "The only thing funnier than the comedy on this site is the puny advance that Bob gave us! That and the book Bob wrote on how he thinks the music business works."
Licensed titles from UMG will include selections from comedians such as Richard Pryor, Dennis Leary, The Jerky Boys, Redd Foxx, and other stand-up headliners.
"Negotiating with UMG was the highlight of my life," says Kohn. "I only closed the deal because Kenswil threw in a backstage pass to a Shania Twain concert."
Kohn co-founded LAUGH.com with a host of well-known comedians to promote and distribute high-quality comedy material online and through wireless devices.
