Lost your job recently? Internet domain name provider, Namezero.com says it feels your pain.
Los Gatos-based company Wednesday announced a special offer for recently laid-off people to help them promote themselves and attract new job offers.
For a limited time, people can register to receive a free domain name, personalized domain-based email, URL forwarding and access to Web site building tools and hosting services, resume writing tips, and other resources to aid in their search for employment.
The offer is good at least for the first 10,000 people who sign up or for a couple of months, depending on which comes first.
"We wanted to do something to help people get back into the workforce as soon as possible," says Namezero president and CEO Bruce Keiser. "Image is everything when you are looking for a new job. Namezero provides job seekers with personalized domain e-mail like you@yourname.com, which features their domain name to give them the professional, permanent appearance that they can't get with a temporary mail address from an ISP or free email provider like Hotmail or Yahoo. Having your own Web address, with personalized domain-based email, is the ideal way to market yourself professionally to prospective employers."
With the recent economic downturn, technology companies ranging from startups to multi-national conglomerates have announced layoffs of hundreds of thousands of workers since January 2001.
Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area have felt the brunt of Internet economy layoffs, accounting for nearly 30 percent of all positions eliminated, according to the Bureau of Labor statistics.
"I used my personal domain to post my resume and show off my work to perspective employers," says Robert Brown, a San Francisco advertising professional recently unemployed due to the Internet economy down turn. "In this market, job seekers really have to market themselves, and a domain name on the Web is a great tool for getting my information out there quickly and reaching as many people as possible."
